We've got our Speed Innovation ECU tuning software for the E53. This is a complete ECU reflash that can be adapted to any modifications to improve horsepower, torque, throttle response, top speed and adjusting the rev limiter.

Only you can decide if it is worth it. A chip, installed on a naturally aspirated BMW engine, without other modifications, will have very little effect. The links above include a dyno chart for the 3.0. The chip manufacturer claims 3.4 hp at 6000 rpm. That is less than a 2% gain, and you have to ask yourself how often you are running at 6000 rpm (the gain under 4000 rpm is far less). The increase in torque is approx 1% on the same graph. Remember that this is a 5000 lb vehicle. You won't notice it at all IMO. Same with fuel consumption, there aren't easy gains to be had with engine mods; if you want to save fuel, modify your driving style as that will have the biggest impact.

If you want to put on an intake, an exhaust, and a chip, you could see a little more, but the simple answer is that if you want to spend that much money, just buy a 4.4 or a 4.6.

The only 3.0 mod that will show real power increase is a supercharger, but again, a 4.4 is cheaper.

I Agree,
I would not chip my X5 if it were a 3.0, just an intake to sound better, and possibly a few HP!
I have 2 X5 4.4i's and they both have AFE intakes and superchips, very noticable difference and Huge Sound Difference under throttle, one is getting a Remus exhaust next week as well.
