Angry 72k And Blew Trans. !!!

Hello everyone, I am trying to type this and not put my fist through my lap top right now! I purchased my X about 9 months ago and fell in love. It had 54K when i bought it and it came with a pre owned certified warranty up to 100K or 2 years from purchase date wich ever comes first. It's a 2002 4.4i and when i bought it i had 20" factory rims and the Dinan S-2 Package put on along with a few other minor mods. Since i have owned it the trans. failure program has come on twice and each time i brought it in to service and they told me a minor part had failed and they replaced it and i was good to go. Paid my fifty dollar deductable and cruised home. The second time it happend it got me to wonder if they fixed it the first time or not! Yesterday wile 90 miles from home the engine failure program comes on followed by the trans. failure prog. and i limped it all the way to the dealership. 90 miles! You believe that! Anyway they call me today and tell me i need a new trans. and i could'nt believe it. It's covered under my warranty but WHATS UP WITH THAT? By friday it should be done and it's not a new trans. it's a rebuilt one that bmw told me that they dont offer new ones just rebuilt. Could it be i'm driving it to rough or could it be the Dinan trans software or what? Anyone here ever had transmission problems with 72K on there X? I'm pissed and worried cause i spent every last dime i had on this BIMMER!!! Any feedback would help my pain. Thanx

you arnt the first to have tranny probs at such low mileage, but after how that dealership treated you the first 2 times, I'd limp to another dealership from now on.

i dont like engine modded X5. that will cause more problems than it already does. i have 3 yrs/100,000 mile 3rd party power train warranty after i purchased it about more than a year ago. i now have 77K miles on it i think when it hits 99K it will be for sale. dont get me wrong, i love everything about the x to the point that i wash it almost every 2 days and change engine oil every 3K miles with OEM oil and filter while the recommend change every 12K, but i dont want no part of the big repair bills after warranty expires.

Sorry to hear it. I agree with Roc - 01's and '02's seemt to be more prone to the trans failure problems, at least that is the impression you get from looking at the postings on here. On the other hand '01's and '02's are the oldest transmisisons out there so maybe its not unexpected.

On the positive side at least you have CPO coverage. I wouldn't want to be replacing a trans on my dime.

Good luck
