X5 Driver side door does not open from Outside

I have a 2001 X5 3.0i. The driver side door does not open from out side, i will have to open it from inside. The door handle looks fine but it has slightly come out. I am not sure if some thing inside has broken. I am not sure if i have to replace the Carrier assembly or some thing else. Can any one please let me know if you had similar problem and what did you do to resolve it ?. Do i have to replace the carrier assembly or is it a small fix which a mechanic can fix it? can you recomend any web site where i can get this Carrier assembly?. I have a mechaninc who can fix it if i can get him the parts.

I had something similar happen on my 2001 X5, but in my case I could open it from the outside but not the inside. What had happened on mine is the place on the lock/latch assembly where the cable from the interior door pull attaches had broken, so I had to replace the lock/latch assembly.

You'll likely have to remove the door panel in order to really see what is going on in your case.

Thanks for your quick response. I guess you had a different problem than mine. The door handle has slightly come out, i tried to push it in but was not going back to original position.

Exact same thing happened to me with the X. Ended up having to replace the carrier assembly but the job was not extensive by any stretch. The door panel does have to be removed but once you're in, it's relatively straight forward! GL!

Hi VishnuReddy, did you get your door fixed? I had the same problem this morning. I cannot open my driver from outside but can from inside. It is very bothersome. I can also notice the handle little disoriented but if i push it does go back into place. What did you end up doing?

How did you get your door fixed? I had the same problem this morning. What did you end up doing? Did you buy any part and did it yourself or you took it to a mechanic? Please let me know in detail.

I had to replace the carrier assembly for my 2001 BMW. Carrier assembly has a cable which usually is the problem, it might broke like the regulator cables. But in my case there were couple of plastic parts in the carrier assembly which had broken and so i had to replace the whole carrier assembly. I got the carrier assembly from the BMW show room for $110 and i paid my mechaninc $80 to replace it.
