Red face Fuel Trim Malfunction

Ok the newest problem I have on my 2000 4.4 is that my ODB computer says I have a fuel trim malfunction and camshaft sensor problem. It drives ok but I could tell that there could be a loss of power from take off. Now I think some of that has to do with the AC being on. Has anyone has messages like this before. The car has 73,690 miles on it. I am also contemplating getting rid of her and getting a newer one or leasing a 07 what do you guys think. I would like to fix her if possible.

Thanks Greg

If you have a CPS fault then change the sensor and reset all codes. Then see what happens.

Yeah I would like to upgrade to an 07 but I am hesitant to purchase another BMW. If anything I would consider a lease option. I am having these problems checked out by a shop today and am expecting them to tell me it's a $1000 fix. BMW's seem like the ultimate driving machine for a few years or few miles and then there the ultimate money pit machine. I would consider myself more than lucky with only having minor problems.

I will let you guys know what the prognosis is later tonight.

Thanks Greg

I am sure your cam sensor fault is on target, but I wonder about the fuel trim fault. I had misfire faults and it netted me the following.

Leaking intake manifold gaskets, leaking valley pan and gaskets, rear breather hoses beginning to fail.

Now the good news. My extended warranty company is solid and approved the repairs minus the hoses. Not to shabby at all.

I just got back from the shop and it looks like they recommended 2 new cam shaft sensors and then a mass air flow sensor.

I love the x5 but it may be time to trade it in or sell it.

To fix the sensors is gonna run a little over a $1000.00 what I am trying to decide is what else is gonna go wrong. I think if the transmission goes or engine then I could be in a world of trouble. I am confident everything is in good shape but the little things may be the money pit trap.

Do I keep it and cross my fingers that nothing else goes wrong or sell it and potential get stuck with huge payments.

I have test driven everything out there and nothing compares to the x5. I think we can all agree.

Thanks Greg
