Bad news for my 4.4i!!!!!

Last night I decided to install my Ipod interface with the 2point spec deck. At the same time I was going to install my bass link and run all wires to the front as specified by the directions. Well everything went great! Except when my buddy and I where putting the finishing touches on everything, my buddy screwed in the dice module right into the A/C Evaporator. And everyone knows what happened after that, all you could hear was the compressed air coming out. This was the most unbelievable thing ever. What a stupid mistake to happen. But it was a mistake, what can you do? Well, today I took it to my mechanic and he told me that its a really big job because he has to take the dash all off and the center console. He is a good friend of mine and I've been going to him for over 14 yrs. So I begged that he not charge me a lot of labor. BMW says 14 hrs labor charge for this job. WTF!!!!! He told me not to worry and is going to take care of me. I know I F'd up, I'm so pissed off, my buddy was about to pay for this cause he felt soooo bad. I told me no and that he owes me big time. So one day I'll get him to do me a favor, something like a clip from the Godfather. LOL..... Either way X is going in on Monday will have back on Thursday. I'll let everyone know how it went and how much it cost with my price. Talk about a costly mistake. Just wanted to vent a little, keeps me in check before I lose my nerve like I did yesterday.
Other then that, the Ipod works great with my Navi and the sub is just perfect for me, thanks to everyone for helping make up my mind. I hope some learned from my mistake, I know it is going to cost me a lot of $$$$ but at the end of the day, at least nothing worse happened and the problem can be fixed. All in all I'm looking at a little over 1000.00 dollars and some change for sure with this problem, well A/C Evap. costs 500 bucks right off the bat, plus figure at least 7 to 8 hundred just on labor you are looking at 1200 to 1300 dollars easy. Talk about getting screwed.

JBweld the hole. Replacing the whole evap because of this small mistake is insane.

Ouch, sorry to hear that. I bet when you heard that hissing sound you went

Hope your mechanic can keep the repair costs to a minimum. Good luck!

Well, you don't want that stuff to ooze into the evap before it dries and I don't exactly know what the thing looks like shape, etc wise. You're going to have to remove it to fix it anyway, so take it to homedepot and ask them about the best way to finish the job. For this particular app, there might be something even better than jbweld. You most def don't have to replace the unit. Good luck.

Well the hole is very small, so ouzing would not really occur, second after I fix the hole, how do I get the frean back in? I can try to fix it with JB tonight and see in the morning if it works but, I need to fill that sucker back up, do you now what I need to use???

Pretty sure that you need a license to purchase freon, so you might need a mech to for that part of the job. Do not run the ac system without freon though; it wil get damaged.

PS: use multiple paragraphs next time.

Here is a few looks at the problem, the hole might be right on the acutator its hard to see. Basically when you remove that one piece of carpet trim on the driver side by your right foot area. It's held by one screw. Well there right next to the foot vent there is this black plastic piece that is toward the engine right below the a/c controls, thats where the hole is.

I think I hit #7 which is the coolant pipe, found under the Evaporator...
