Thanks folks, will get some pics up soon.

My first impressions are really good, love the driving position and it's got just about enough ooomph to get me where I need to go. She is a thirsty girl and at 90p ($1.60) a litre I will soon be best friends with my local petrol station .

But hey if I was worried about it I would have bought the 3.0l diesel

Also interested in other peoples perception of BMW drivers in the USA, over here they pretty much the most hated person on the road. This is gerenraaly down to BMW drivers being arrogant and snobby with a terrible attitude towards other drivers.
Although this is certainly not the way I drive, I generally agree with the above.

Any comments?

alan

is that because 007 now drives a BMW instead of an Aston?

Over here, people can be random brakers when they see the kidney grill and round headlights of a BMW behind them, I've had people actually attempt to 'block' me from passing in my X5. People here who drive BMWs generally seem to be a bit more the type who drive from point a to b and like to wring their ride out a little instead of just cruising. In the particular area I live in, however, a 3 series is nearly as common as a Camry or a Maxima.

Welcome to X5World, Alan! Enjoy the 4.4!

Congrats and welcome!

Your views of BMW owners do not really differ too much from most Americans' views of BMW owners. Most people view us as arrogant drivers who drive too fast. Maybe they're right? Though, I have to say that everyone here on this board is great -- we're just people who appreciated good engineering, quality, luxury, and performance. As with JVZ, I encounter many others who won't let me pass them (remain in the left lane at all costs), speed up when you try to go around them on the right lane, or race you from stop lights. I've had guys on suburbans suddenly speed up to pass me; I've had guys in Durangos try to race me in a highway (I ignored him)... you name it. For some reason, many people see a bimmer and feel as though they have to prove to you that their car is just as good (or fast) as yours.

Yes, unfortunately, we (BMW drivers) do have a "less than stellar" reputation. We do, however, put up with a lot of abuse from other drivers also.

Juan

Welcome to X5 World! It's very nice to have another member from a far away land. That's what makes this X5 World.

Being in Southern California where BMW's are extremely common, I can't say that they are especially hated. I think that there are just so many bad/inconsiderate drivers out there in all kinds of marques, that all drivers suck.

Be sure to check out the Home Page and all of the articles there and be sure to stop in to The Lounge. It's not Scottish but it's not crrrap.

Welcome to the forum!

There are some very knowledgeable people here who take the time to answer even the most repeated of questions, and sometimes other snippets of advice appear in the most unlikely of places.

They are very friendly here too so ENJOY!

Cheers.
