Ok then if what you say is true (one needs to be careful for the next 24 hours.... especially with closing the doors to ensure a good seal) then it appears that maybe BMW could be correct. If so then perhaps the extra mile (clamping and not driving) would be a better option.

The seal is made with a urethane sealant, and while taped down for 24 hours, it really shouldn't be driven during that time, because the car can flex and disrupt the seal. As Quicksilver mentions above, it does indeed add to the structurl rigidity of the car. Distortions, and distortions are not normal. If it's not in your line of site, it may not be a big deal. If it is get it replaced. Look and see what brand of glass they used. Should be BMW or PPG. BTWm I worked at an auto glass outfit for 10 years .

Or just leave a window open to equalize the pressure and dont slam any doors.

Well the distortion runs vetically along the edge on the pasenger side. I would have to tell you to look for it for you to notice it at first. It is a BMW windshield.

It is the kind of thing that I guess I could live with but if it is not "normal" I would rather not have. If anyone else w/ comfort glass has it fine... if not I will go back and ask them to check it out....

Thanks for the informative reply!!

Cool! Hopefully one of these days when I find my X we can meet up. Curious to see how the comfort glass is in person...

Have a safe trip!

If YOU notice it every time you drive the car, then make them replace it. It is NOT normal. There are not enough people on here with the CGW for you to be able to spot a trend. Here's a trick if you need to show them the distortion. Take an 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper and draw a tight (BOLD), maybe 1/2" checkerboard pattern on it. Have someone move the paper up and down on the outside of the car in the distortion area while you look at the paper from the inside of the car. As the paper passes accross the distortion, the lines you have drawn will become distorted and be VERY visible to the viewer. Good luck!

I went to the dealer to have them check it out. (The glass company told me it was a BMW warranty issue now.) My service tech took a look at it with his manager. They did notice some slight distortion. But it really is only is about 1/2 and inch off of the passenger side edge. They pulled out another X5 and you could see the slightest bit of distortion on that one too. They told me the distortion was normal and they would not replce it.

It is the kind of thing that is not the worst thing in the world. If you were to drive my X5 I would probably have to tell you about it for you to notice. I am in a lil bit of a quandry. I would ideally like a perfect windshield but this one is ok and I am not sure that there is a "perfect" windshield.

What do you guys think????

I say it's fine as long as it's not too noticeable to others afterall it's still an awesome windshield.

Btw, I sent you a PM.

Can't see any distortions on mine, but then there's a dot pattern on the glass that comes in from the all of edges to a distance of about 3/4 inch.

There are 'radio transparent' zones to either side of the mirror and also bottom centre to allow for both radar and toll hardware to work.

I use a 'Road Angel Plus' GPS safety device (aka Camera Detector) which has a secondary re-radiating antenna mounted with a bit of double-sided tape just beside the mirror so that the GPS signals are available
