X5 LIGHT PLASTIC COVER

Hi,
Is it possible to change only the transparent covers on the front lights ?
Mine starts to be a bit foggy and I hate it .

Somewhat common for these. What year is your car? Is it just cloudy or is there condensation? If there is water you might be able to have it covered under warrenty...again assuming you have one.

No condensation. It is a 2002 3.0. Just normal wear because I do 8 miles a day in gravel road and dust is like sand paper over the time on the plastic

Most likely you will have to just change the entire assembly. The '02's -- depending on production date -- can be tricky to open up to change out the cover. I would say just get new a assembly then some of those clear plastic covers to protect again future scrapes.

I don't think anybody has been able source the lenses yet. The only way to get a set is to remove them from another light unit. Halogens sell for nothing on eBay so that may be a way to go.
You can remove most of the haze with 800/1000/2000 grit wet and dry paper used wet. Then a final polish with a clear coat polishing compound. That method will take out most of the marks. Then, as suggested, put a set of clear covers over the restored light units that can be easily changed as required.

Go to Ace hardware, buy a polishing wheel (the type that goes on a bench grinder), some white jewlers rouge, a 1/2 inch bolt about 5 inches long, two large flat washers, two nuts and a lock washer. Cut the head off the bolt, thread one of the nuts on, place a flat washer, the polishing wheel, the other flat washer, lock washer and the last nut on, tighten the nuts very tight. place the rig you just made into a 1/2 inch drill, spin it up to it's fastest speed, touch the rouge until it starts to coat the wheel (very messy) apply light pressure to the clear head light (did I say light) and you can effectivly polish all the scratches out (did I say light pressure) reapply the rouge often, If you can't find rouge, white polishing compound might work (I've never tried it) I have very successfully polished two sets of headlights using this method. (Did I say light pressure, it is plastic) I did manage to ruin a set by appling too much pressure.
