Flat tire and still so stable and safe....

Just wanted to share this with you all.....I was coming from Toronto to Michigan this weekend on hwy-402 (London to Port Huron) and it is a big boring lonesome stretch for almost 60 miles. All of a sudden after 30 miles or so on this stretch, me and wife noticed a sound as if we were driving on a shoulder(road on the sides with those marks where if you go, it makes noise). Well, i suspected a flat tire and took my hands off steering wheel but the X5 was going straight with no pulling to any side. Then i checked my RPM meter and still nothing. And all of a sudden, i saw black smoke coming from rear and i pulled over to side. The tire was completely blown out and X5 was literally on a rim. I took the tools and spare out and tried taking out the tire myself. I got off all the nuts but tire was stuck inside and it was not coming out. It was 11pm at night and no one was ready to stop either. Called AAA finally and they too were surprised to see the condition of the tire and told me that i was lucky to have survived. And me and my wife were really happy with our X5 to not have shown any unstability. It is the safest car i have ever driven so far.

Thanks to you all for reading so far and please be assured of the quality of your car. It is safest for you and your family and that's what we care for, right?

If anybody has any spare 285-45-19 for sale, do let me know. My one tire is almost 70-80% and i want this other one to be the same tread as well.

Glad to hear everyone stayed safe when the tire blew. It is an amazing machine.

Since you mention it is 285 tire, then I assume it is the rear tire. This is usually fine.

8 years ago, I was driving with my Lexus GS and one of my tire blow off on the freeway. Actually it was flat before I enterying the freeway but I didn't know. When I was getting to the freeway speed all I notice was the car felt a little heavy, and after I got to 70mph, I felt the "wind noise" was louder. but that was it. so I was traveling with the speed between 70 to 80mph. sunddently I saw a black stuff shoot out from my back and it look like a tire. I realized I got a blow tire. but that was after about 3 miles on the freeway.

You can call me an idiot but that was the first time I had a flat tire in my life. and the car was just too stable to tell anything different.
