Yet another CV boot question ...
Hi all,
This site is top-notch and I need to thank you all many times over for all of the help these pages provide.
So it finally happened the drivers side outer boot tore on the 4.4 and I caught it within days, typical symptoms grease throw up all over the inside of the rim.
I have practically memorized the DIY that hayaku put together with all of the combined tips from Ecko, Abarth, and The Cleaner. I ordered all the parts today and I have been getting everything ready to go when something hit me that I couldn't make sense of. In step 11 when you start to bang on the the star part of the joint to push it off the shaft doesnt the c-clip prevent this from happening? It would seem to me that the c-clip is alread expanded and when you start to bang on the star it will bump up against the c-clip and not let the joint come off the spline of the axle?
Secondly everyone comments on the amount of hammering involved with this project. Since we are leaving the axle half shaft connected to the transmission, is there any chance of dmage to the transmission with all of the hammering that it takes to first get the cv joint on and then get the hub back on?
thanks for the help guys!
