Question X5 Daytime Running Lights

Hi all,

I have a 3.0i 2002 X5. I shipped my car from US to Europe and driving it more than a year now. The most annoying thing for me is the US version of the Daytime Running Lights. In the US version the color of the DRL (Daytime Running Lights) is amber and lights up in the turning signal section of the headlight.

But in the European version, the DRLs lights up in the high beam section, with a seperate bulb, without any color. Is there anyway to do the European version or maybe cancel the DRLs at all.

In US version there is only 1 cable coming to the turning signal section of the headlight and it lights up both the DRL and the turning signal at the same time. So you cannot bypass the cable to the High beams.

Please help me to solve this annoying thing. Thanks all.

The DRL in US lights up in the high beam bulb as well, or at least in MY03 and later.

Yup, the DRL light up the inner two lights in my Canadian version as well...which you are referring to as the 'high beam section.'

If the outer two light up then I assume you don't have xenon lights. I believe the parking lights also switch on the corner amber lights in the turn signal section. I will check mine today...

Also, your dealer should be able to programm the DRL to stay off.

I had the Dealer turn off the DRL. Not a big deal at all. Took 5 minutes.

Thanks for the help

Thanks for the help so I will get the DRLs turn off by the dealer. But How can I get them light up in the High Beam section. The BMW guy told me that they have to drill a hole to put the DRL bulb into the high Beam section. Do you think this is a smart idea.

something is screwy if the DRL's are lighting up in the outboard lights and not the inboard
