Audio problem with RSE (DVD System)

Does anyone know if there is an updated firmware available for the BMW OEM DVD System with the headrest monitors? The part number for the Kit is 84 11 0 399 307.

Sometimes the sound will randomely stop. I checked all the connections and secured them with electrical tape as well, so I don't think it is a loose connection. The sound stops playing through both the wireless headphones and the AUX connection. If I turn the DVD player off and then back on again, the sound comes back. So I think it must be an issue with the player itself. Hopefully a simple firmware update will fix it but I can't find anything online about this system.

Also, does anyone know if the power and A/V connections in the back of the DVD player are proprietary or can I replace the DVD player with an aftermarket DVD player and use the existing cables?
