Temporary Insanity

So, I guess it was a pre-midlife crisis scenario, but the wife and I "bounced around" the idea of getting a new vehicle to replace the '04 X. We dont have much choice on American vehicles over here in the UK, but we have a few dealers that come over and sell at a pretty darn good discount...

I drove to a consolidated dealer and we both liked the way this "Touraeg" thing looked..(Its like prison over here, we dont see all the new stuff that comes out until much later)..Figured we save a few bucks on the thing, right?! WRONG!! That thing was more than I paid for my X 6 months ago!! And then I drove it...C'mon VW, you gotta be kiddin' me ...Dont get me wrong, I loved the interior...but it felt like I was driving a datsun...So basically that was the end of that relapse for the both of us..

However, we just got back from a month long vacation back in the good 'ol USA, and I have one comment...What the hell is that new Lexus truck I see everyone driving around?!? Am I retarded, or is that thing SWEET?!?! I guess the important question is, HOW MUCH?! And will I like it as much as my X?!

Which Lexus are you talking about? There's the RX330/RX400h (the h is a hybrid), which is roughly the size of the X5. There's the larger GX470, and the office-building sized LX470. They're very well made and very reliable (they're essentially luxurious Toyotas) but I don't think they handle very well. They're geared towards luxury, not comfort. They're very popular around NH.

B: You and theMissus are excused from the tempoinsanity

You probably mean this Lexus...the Lexi of this species
are nearly ubiquitous over here in the land of the Mall Matron,

(There are many sites w/info and reviews on this car;I jes'grabbed this one.)

Yes, it's a fine car, v.well built, customer service oozing from the Stlr, etc. It is No X5, (or X3), in terms of ride/handling...
that said, you will get many opins here, and it's your dime.
Go drive one on your usual twisty road pub run route.

It's your buck, though, so drive what you want. My 2Cts from the Colonies...

Something to think about when we get bored I guess...

I believe that's the GX to which CJ was referring. Yes, very nice vehicle. Luxury, quiet, & comfort are great but it's not considered a "driver's" vehicle like the X is - not as quick and doesn't handle as well, but I do think they're quite nice and it would be enjoyable for someone who doesn't care about the engaging drive the X offers.

That is the GX430 based on the Toyota Sequoia (SUV). It also drives like a lumbering truck, but full of luxury. Better off getting a Toyota Sequoia and save some $$....or keep your fine X5.

It's based on the new 4Runner, isn't it? I could be wrong.

I think it's a good looking SUV, too. Very handsome.

Yep, it is nice lookin' CJ, but the funny thing is, I was VERY open minded when I went looking for an SUV 6 months ago..And it came down to this..I sat in the "other" Lexus, and thought, hmm..this is nice, but I wonder if its better than the X. Then I drove an LR3, and loved it, but kept thinking, hmm.."What if?"... Sat in the XC90, the wife LOVED it to death, but she still asked, "I wonder how this compares to the X?"...

Then we drove the X, and funny enough, we didnt ask about any comparisons during the drive...We didnt even have to look at each other..And it was cheaper than all 3 by far!

So now this GX comes along, and we both like it a lot, but I have a feeling we'll be keeping the X...

Oh yeah..did I actually see someone driving a f*@#in "H3" back in the states!? What the hell has my country come to?!?! HAHAHA!!! So, what is that, like, 9 and a half a gallon as opposed to the 7 like the Pepper and H2 do?! Geez..I think Ill get one of those big rigs that Ashton Kutcher drives..Does it come with Demi?

Haha yes the new H3 is out! I've read some reviews, but it's nothing great apparently... I don't see the attraction of Hummers, personally.
