Not sure if you have a 6cyl or an 8cyl. I did the covers on my 8cyl 540 and it was pretty straight forward, however it was a PITA, took me 5 hours. Go to BMWTIPS.com and look under the "engine" section. There is a write up on the 8cyl 5-series which should offer some insight.

I can tell you how to do the 6cyl process; it should NOT take 5 hours. More like 90 minutes. But it only has one set of valves to cover, so we get it easy.
To get the coils out just remove the two 10mm bolts that hold each down and pull them straight off. They just pop out. |

i have an 8cyl which has the positive cable that goes over the one of the cover which i couldnt remove
