fold mirrors manually

Hi,
Has anyone ever had a bad experience by folding in or out the mirrors once they were folded by the inside with the button?

Yes! With auto fold you are supposed to fold and unfold via the button. However auto fold has proven to be one of those common problems down the line, and tend to go faulty. Have you experienced a problem?

i am

When i press the button several times, the driver mirror does not fold in. the dealer changed the microswitch last week, but it must be another problem. then last night, someone opened the passenger mirror, by mistake of course, when it was retracted.

Ok first the drivers door mirror. If it has stopped folding it will most likely need replacing as there seem to be a common problem with folding mirrors and the only solution is replacing. I have had the the same problem which I had replaced under warranty. Are both your mirrors now in an almost "floppy" like stage?

The only problem you have is with the drivers side. It sounds like it will need replaced, it will be covered under warranty if you have it, if not I would push for a "good will gesture" from your dealer and you may get the part with a good discounted.

This morning the passenger mirror would not open so I manually put it in position so I could see. I just tested it in the garage and you can hear the motor on the passenger side groaning.
I don't suppose that is enough to take it to the dealer. I must wait until it completely fails, right.
This is on a 2004 still covered by the factory warranty.
BTW, when the job is finally done, how long does it take? Do you go and wait or get a courtesy car and leave the X5 all day?

Sounds like your mirrors are on their way out. If you have warranty I would take your X in and complain. I had both mine replaced under warranty for the same problem.
