Replace CV boot or whole shaft

I am not really sure what way to go here? I will be doing the repair myself so for the extra money for the shaft it might be easier to do the shaft instead of the boot replacement? Boot replacement seems lenghty where as the shaft is a little less involved i guess you could say? My boot just tore so I am almost certain the shaft is still good. but I have got 120kms on my 2000 4.4 so when does the inner boots usually go? Any thoughts would be great!

my cv boot has been torn for the last 2 months.

I havent had time to fix it... car has 102,000 miles.

I just never drive it in rain. I did once, but I had no choice. Hopefully I can get around to it this weekend.

the inner boot will last alot longer since that joint does not flex nearly as much as the outer.

If interested i can refer you to my Dad's mechanic in toronto and he can replace the CV boot for you. Last time he charged me $80 for parts+labor. Let me know if interested and i can get you his name and number.

Ok. that's nice if you can getthe kit for $14CAD as i bought it for mine for $25 which i never used because the mechanic used his own. In your case, go with DIY as it's not that hard of a job if you have proper tools. It's only couple of hours, i guess.

Call morristown for the boot repair kit. I'm ordering mine today from them. Whole shaft is $350ish, repair kit is $35ish. It's your call.

Does the entire new shaft assembly come with new outer and inner boots? Just curious...
