either way it goes directly into the engine. If you pull a vaccum line off it will not run in order to have the engine burn off the access cleaner, opposed to when you use the intake boot way the engine should still run fine and you can clean the manifold that way! My next question is what do you want to clean? the intake ports and manifold or the combustion chambers? Search this in the header above and read this postm, it might help How to clean your whole intake system and your injectors too.

the carbon deposits

I would want to clean the carbon deposits inside the combustion chamber.

also, if I choose to clean it through the boot, I should not spray any of the maf sensors, right? I just go into the intake?

At 64000kms you shouldn't have much build up unless you only drive in the city all the time and baby it. The only way I would clean the MAF is if I have an engine light on about the MAF. like I said before spary into the intake while engine is idling just do 1-2 second bursts of spray and that will also clean any deposits because thats where the air goes, through the filter up the tube into the throttle body to the manifold into the chambers. Did you search that title?

Tonydan1,
Did you fix the shaking? My 03 X5 4.4 (65k miles) recently developed similar symptoms: intermitent shaking/jerking at start up at low rpm. It started a few weeks ago. It runs normal, but when I stop at a light or slow down it jerks slightly. It smoothens out when fully warm.
Thanks for the help.

I struggled with this issue too for about 10K miles and never was able to get it to run right no matter what parts I changed. Finally fixed it yesterday when I traded it in on a Lexus . . . that's how I fixed my problem.

I ran several bottles of Techron, Seafoam and some other concauction that was touted as being the best and never made a difference. OP try it and see if does anything for you.
