I think the Range is a little faster, but I don't think they hold their value over time (like 5+years) as well as a 4.6 or 4.8 would. If you look on the road, you don't see many RR 4.6HSE models (1996 - 2002). I think RR has really lost their touch with reliability over the last decade. They are very luxurious, and great looking, but I just don't think they go off road like they used to, or hold up over time. From what I have heard, they kind of hit the wall at 60,000 miles.
In the overall comparison, I would think the 4.6is would be better in most.

You buy a range rover and that car will be worth 10k in 5 years.
When the new model comes out... the current model is going to go down .. wayyy down |

So a new RR vs CPO 4.6? They are pretty darn smiliar in performance I think. The RR has about 50 more hp. However its substantially heavier. I actually kept up with my friend's RRS SC well enough in my 4.4i.
Youre obviously going to be spending a lot more for a new car vs CPO. While I like the ride over the RR over an X with sport package, the BMW usually wins in mho overall. The back seats of the RR are really just for looks. And the comon comfort features are missing in the RR (ie one touch up and down windows, able to move the seats w/o turning the car on, ect) Good luck in your decision. |

The 4.6is beats the RR no contest in 0-60...
RR supercharged sport....does 60 in 7 seconds 4.6is...does 60 between 6.2 and 6.4 seconds (depending on where you read the stats, I have never tested mine but it hauls azz in sport mode) |

A friend of mine has both, and he said the 4.6 is a quicker and much better vehicle, hence to say he gave the RR to his wife and always drives the 4.6!

4.6 looks great and so does the RR. As for proformance, take the Bimmer... The enginering is sick in these cars.... IMO...

No comparison, I drove my friends RRS supercharged and then got into my 4.8, the BMW handles much nicer, stops significantly better, and along the same road I could come off of one turn about 10 mph faster in the X5 than in the RR, the 4.6 isn't that much slower than the 4.8 and there is a huge difference btw the 4.8 and the RR, plus after driving the RR like I drive my BMW everyday the RR died, the electronics system fried and there was a complete vehicle failure (after 4000 miles), luckily my friend's dad owns the RR dealership so it wasn't an issue.
