A tricky electrical problem.

Here's a good one for you electrical wizards out there:

3 or so months ago, my bluetooth quit working. BMW assist module likely failed. The dealer tells me my phone is incompatible and caused the bluetooth module to get corrupted. He said once I get anew phone that is compatible, he'll replace the module.

1 week ago, my radio quit on me...sirius/cd/tuner all not working, no power to the unit.

This past wednesday, after not driving at all tuesday, my battery is dead when i go to start it. I jump start it from my wifes expedition, starts no problem. Alternator seems to work fine. The radio is now fully functional. But the 4x4 engine light comes on. And the engine diagnostic light comes on.

So I take it in to the dealer. They find a 1.3amp draw, but can't figure out where. They charge the battery and let it run a few minutes, then restart it. Now there is no draw, and they tell me I can pick it up, they can't find the drain when its not draweing. And guess what, the bluetooth module is also now working normally.

Do I have a ghost? They told me to pick it up, and if the battery goes dead again to bring it back in. Anyone have any other ideas? I would think it has something to do with the bluetooth.

Aftermarket electronics: BEL remote radar, Innvision headerest DVDs, BMW oem sirius satellite. Thats it.

Thanks for any ideas. I'll put my jumper cables in the trunk for now.

Could be just as you thought. Sometimes you just need to remove ALL power from these BMW modules to reset them. Had that happen with my radio some time ago and removing the plug on the rear of the head unit and reconnecting cured the problem.
Weird!!
P.S. Go one better- Buy yourself a battery powered jumper box. Keep it charged and in the trunk.

yup you have a ghost and it's not me It sounds like you have an intermittent power drain somewhere that is causing all the other problems. Likely to be in one of the mods you did if you've never experienced any problems before the first mod. Once you locate the drain, fix it, and reset all power to car and you should be as good as new. Good luck and keep us posted.

check the heater sat (trade name hedgehog) under the centre console. looks like a alumuminum porcupine. BMW birmingham change about 3 a week. Will cause heater to come on in the night if shorting
