down under in australia.....

we get to pay the exchange rate difference, but then we get slugged with a government luxury car tax that adds some $erious dollars...... plus GST

and then I suspect BMW gives us this price because they can.....

I haggled, and haggled, and haggled and priced it up in several states.......and that was the best I could get, oh and that included the local state government sales tax......

sheesh, if I could have bought a right hand drive in the states I would have come over, but no one over there would sell me one......

4.8is

I give my 4.8 a 9. The only negatives are that the upshift points are erratic and the servotronic steering is a tad light compared to other BMW's. Otherwise it is kick ass fun!

I would give it 10. Just did a CT to Chicago and back over the weekend and it was nothing but ultimate driving pleasure. On my way back an M3 zipped passed me on the Indiana tollway at midnight and I was able to pass him in no time.....not to mention the M3 driver was impressed and showed a thumbs up. On the highway I got the mileage of 18.22mpg. I like the sport seats with the hugging sport for the back and the extension to the seat in the front, really helps in the long drive. Much less fatigue compared to other cars I have driven. Go for it.

Thumbs up

I would rate it a 9.0 Great SUV, enough power, The stereo is the worst. I am in the process of a complete overall of the system with Dynaudio speakers, DLS 10" subwoofer. All integrated in the stock system oh, and the DSP still works the only feature that will be disabled is the echo/room feature, which is kinda useless anyway. Everything will be completely hidden and no change in the cargo space!...Way to Go Avincar Located here in Portland. I should get it back within the next few days!

2 noticed things. People are not happy with the sound system and the shift points are awkward. I am pretty satisfied with the shift points in my 01 4.4i and it always seesm to kick in at the right time. Another thing I noticed is DSP in the 2001 model sounds better than the DSP in the newer models. I am not sure why this is, but I compared my 01 with my neighbors 05 and we both agree that the 01 sounds much better.

Ok...after all that...you still have 355 hp and would leave my little 4.4i in the dust. After driving the 4.8i it really makes me want to drop a supercharger in my X5. With all the other mods, I could have the first 4 year old X5 that costs as much as a new 4.8i.
