Oil Flicker

I had a flickering oil light that would only show when the car was idle. When i would drive it would go away. I brought it to the stealer and they said that i needed a oil level switch. So i got it replaced........here is my issue.....the next day when i was stopped at a traffic light the oil light started to flicker again! I called up the stealer and they told me that sometimes when you replace a part something else also goes. Then the stealer asked me if a warm the truck up in the morning before i start driving? I thought to myself.....would that really make a difference???
They want me to bring the truck back in so they can look it over.

Any advice......thanks guys!

Sounds to me that the dealer (stealer) never changed anything. Make sure they do the right job and make sure that you let them know that your very upset and that you want this fixed asap. There should be no reason something else goes wrong, but then again it is possible. I still feel that they are B.S.'n you. See what they come up with this time around. Is your car under CPO?

The oil pressure could be low if it is the oil pressure light at idle it is the lowest as soon as you give it any gas the pump runs faster and raises the oil pressure if the oil is old you might change it and see what happens if it does it only when hot I would bet on low oil pressure

Did he actually do a diagnostic check or just tell you they did to make it sound good?

+1

I agree, someone is B.S.'n you. If they didn't fix the problem under the original diagnosis, then they should have a lot of explaining to do. Definitely demand your original fix to be taken off your final bill or negotiate a reduction. When you bring your car in for a problem you are entitled to expect that it is fixed right the first time. Sometimes, things happen and it takes a bit extra diagnosis - that's the time to negotiate something off the bill. Good luck and let us all know how things work out!

They charged me $189.00 dollars for the diagnostic check.......they said that they found it to be the oil level switch. When they called me back for the courtesy check up call i told him what had happened. The rep said that with the cars being so advanced it could take two or three times before the problem is fixed. Is it just me or does that sound wierd???

SO HEAR IS MY UPDATE........................

I went back to the dealer and they said it was now showing the oil pressure switch to be faulty. He said bmw would pick up the labor and i would have to pick up the part....which i didnt mind because the part is $15.00 dollars.

I also had my instrument cluster replaced under the "goodwill warranty" so all i had to pay was the hour labor to put it in.

So far so good......lets see how long it lasts.

Low oil = low oil pressure. Therefore if you have a low oil light, you either have insufficient oil, or the sender is faulty. Either case should have been confirmed by just checking the dipstick. The dipstick does not lie.

They charged you 189.00 to check your dipstick to tell you your sender is faulty.
