Is the premium sound option worth it?

I found a 2004 that has everything we want but the premium sound.Should it be a deal breaker? I saw a speaker upgrade kit from one of the sponsers - Soundwerks. Any thoughts?

The standard system sucks pretty badly, but if you plan to go aftermarket then it shouldn't matter. However, if you want to leave it stock, I'd find one with the Premium.

premium sound + 250watt RMS sub.

I have the premium sound in my 2004 aand it wasnt worth the money. Although the regular system sounded horrible the premium didnt sound that much better. Take the extra money and go after market. I think BSW speakers are your best bet. Believe me bro its not worth the money dont let it be a deal breaker

The standard system isn't as bad as everyone makes it out to be. Actually, all it lacks are some bottom end, which can easily be fixed by adding an aftermarket amp and sub.

When I bought my 2006 new, I left out the premium sound & had BSW replace the speakers , add their sub & amp, and install IceLink for my iPod for not much more than the price of premium sound. It totally sounds much better than my 2001, which I had bought used in 2005. The 2001 sound always sounds like someone threw a couple sheets over the speakers. no crisp, sharp sounds, very muted. But it's all about how YOU think it is. But I do recommend the BSW system, fabulous sound!

100% subjective, get in two different models at the dealer..one with and one with out...play the same CD in both and decide for yourself if it is worth it or not.

As I posted somewhere else

I am not an audiophile but I really like what I've heard from the premium sound in my 2008 X5 so far. I haven't done extensive testing on it yet but the sound quality of the CD (single) player and the DVD player appears to be much better than my iPod. My iPod songs track quality varies but half of my 7,000+ tracks are 192 kbps or better.

Note that the CDs that I played in my DVD player are the ones that I burned from iTunes.

Another advantage of having the DVD player is that you can play DVDs on the front navigation screen while the X5 is in Park.
