Suggestions for long drive? access..

I am about to go from WA to Cali to visit some of my friends. I got my car about a month ago and i already have 1,600miles on it, the car is basically broken in.

My two questions are:

Would I want to do an oil change and replace my filter and eveyrhting before i take my car on this long drive, just so itd be fresh, new oil for a long drive.

Also I am wondering if i should purchase the nose guard, its fabric like material that goes over your bumper and the front of your hood and covers everythgin but your lights. My dealership was sayin its a hard piece to put on they were basically tellin me that as a warnin which i thought was nice.

What do u guys suggest, do i need to do those tasks before i go on this long drive

Id go with some fresh oil for the trip. At the end of break-in, you usually end up with soe metal pieces.

honestly, unless i'm right up on top of it, i have a hard time even noticing the 3M protection. the good thing about the 3M is that it protects ur hood, bumper, lower spoiler and side mirrors, but to each their own. i'm just not a big fan of the fabric ones. too many horror stories about scratched paint.

I agree.

Plus, it would cover up that great looking front end unique to the 4.8is.

No need to change the oil at all.

If you are looking for a one time thing get the nosemask #82110307531

I just made a trip to Chicago and back from CT in my 4.8 and very happy with the ride. I have not had a oil change on my 4.8 yet. I bought last October as 2005 model. Dealer does not want to change till 15k miles, so if you want to change oil you may have to do yourself or get it done from some other place.

I would highly recommend getting the 3M film instead of the vinyl/fabric cover. I have had bad experience with the fabric cover in past. On a long drive dirt & dust will get between the fabric and paint and will start a sort of paint sanding action with the engine vibrations. I have my entire front end covered with 3M Xpel film including headlights, bumper and rearview mirrors. You cannot tell its there unless you are really looking for it. See the pics in this post The film has taken few hits and saved the paint.

Well, I guess I'll add my two pennies to the thread. I am a fan of the fabric bra. In fact, I just purchased a carbon fiber one. It takes less than 5 minutes to put them on. I've had one on every car I have owned and have NEVER had a paint issue. I drove my 4.4i from Tx to Chicago last year and didn't have one issue out of the bra. The trick is to install it correctly. They fit like a glove. I would suggest you try colgan if you get one. It's by far the best I've ever had. If you decide to go with it, drop me a PM and I can get you some added info. I plan to take some pictures as soon as all this damn rain stops...............Phil

Where can you buy the 3M clear protection? I'm very interested in getting that for my X.
