Question Remote Key

E53 2002 3.0i Brooklyn, NY
Out of warranty from BMW. One of the remote keys will not open or lock door even inside the car. Has anyone encounter this problem, if so what would you suggest to do. I have used the key to drive long distance trips but still not working, as I have read the key charges while is in the ignition.

All of your feedback will greatly be appreciated.
Rick

There was a article earlier this year (I think!) by someone who opened the key and changed the battery. Try a search.

all doors? or just driver side door? if it doesn't unlock all 4 doors. you might have problem with the key, or the key doesn't communicate with the vehicle. if it doesn't unlock only driver door. have your door checked for door actuator. my e53 key didn't lock/unlock the driver side, it turned out to be the door actuator. my e60 key didn't lock/unlock any door, it was the bad key, i have it replaced for free under warranty. you could buy a new key for $130 from dealer have them reprogram to your car. it will cost you either way since your car is out of warranty. good luck.

Try reprogramming the key, I done this a few days ago for a friend and it worked perfect!

Get in to the X5
Close all the doors and hatch
Put key in ignition turn to position 1 then turn back and take key out
Immediately after taking the key out press the hatch button once,
then hold down the "door open" button on the remote and at the same time press the "door lock" button on the remote 3 times and release all buttons,
The doors should lock and unlock which is the sign your key has reprogrammed correctly. If the doors do not lock unlock you may have not done the steps quick enough or correctly, failing that, the key may need replaced.
