Has anyone experienced this issue? I have a 2005 4.4i w/6 speed auto trans. As you guys probably are already aware - sport mode is engaged by sliding the shifter to the left and downshifts are performed by pushing the lever forward. Well a couple of days ago I had a scary experience. I had the shifter in normal drive mode when I found myself in a situation where I need immediate engine braking so I reacted by slamming the lever forward. Well since I was in normal drive mode this took the lever through Neutral, past Reverse and all the way to Park. Luckily the trans is software controlled and overrode my action by only shifting into Neutral where the trans and engine free revved.
This is the first vehicle that I have driven that didn't lock the shift lever at Neutral and require the shift button to be depressed to move to Reverse and/or Park. Is this common in the X5 or any BMW for that matter? Has anyone else experienced this?
Thanks in advance for your insight.
Cheers
