Thank God My Wife is Safe After **THE X5 DIED ON FREEWAY**

My wife was driving home from her work on I-495. All of a sudden, all lights goes off, ABS on, Brake on, Battery on, Warning on, Transfailsafe Prog. on. She was too panick to do anything but pull over the shoulder. After the car is stopped, she couldnt start it, everything went dead. She called me, I raced my 530i from home to the place in 10 mins. We called tow truck from our extended warranty company and get it towed to Fairfax dealer. I will be there first thing in the morning. My wife is still scared now. Good god. Can't believe this happen to my X5. I thank god that she was safe when it happened. What do you guys think the problem is? My first thought is the ALTERNATOR just decided to die. But you never know. Thanks for viewing.

Wow that totally sucks for it to just die on the freeway, but good thing everyone's alright! I'm sure the alternator needs to be replaced. Were you on your original battery? You might want to change that out as well. Hope everything gets taken care of!

man that is scary.
I drive to richmond once a week and my car has 105,000 miles on it.

I saw an X5 stranded today on the side of the road as well driving back from Richmond. It was a newer one 04+.

Did you ever change the belts in your car? Maybe that is what it was?? I still haven't done mine. I got them 15,000 miles ago but I am just lazy. Maybe I should do it now.

Sorry to hear that bro, but at least you took it to a good dealership. Fairfax BMW has really changed their entire attitude and customer care approach. I like it. Thank god all is good with you and your family.

I've been driving for 18 years, have had at least 7 cars but never happened anything like this, or even heard about a car stalling on the highway. Since I bought my X5 I keep hearing more and more stories like yours. Is this a normal "behavior" for a BMW car? Now I am scared.

I'm glad she's o.k.! When you do find out what it is, please let us know and also if they give any advice on how to ensure it doesn't happen to anyone else.
