Transmission software HELP

Well i been having a problem with my Transmission but nothing major where it wont drive. The only problem is that the X5 seems to lag when i push the accelerator down at once and there is a short pause followed by a jerk. Before it would Jerk and take off but now there seems to be a lag, and this is not only off the start, even on go the X will lag. The Gear changes are still smooth tho, its just the pedal response. So i taken into the dealer, and i have extended warranty, they tell me first everything is fine and i was like "no its not" so then they call back the next day and tell me they still not sure but i can change the transmission software and it "might" repair it. So i was "okay" and then they want me to pay $120 for the software. So they are not covering it by warranty and at the end they said there is no other choice, What Ya'll think i should do? i;m confused especially about repairing a software that might not even be the problem. ahh, the stealers always seem to be playing with my wallet one way or the other but do i really need this software for my problem? or has someone else had the same problem with thier tranny?

My 2002 X5 4.4i with less than 45000 mile seems to be doing it, it just feel sluggish. Also after driving for sometime it feels lazy, it doesn't kick-down when you accelerate as well. I suspect it's the trans, changing air-filter, plugs etc doens't make any difference.

BTW, do you notice slight rumbling through the gas pedal when you push it after driving a while?

I did not notice any rumbling.

I have read alot of threads on this site but still cant find a clear answer.
So does anyone have feedback on if the Transmission Software is worth doing? or should i just keep driving it till something worse happens because BMW dealer is not giving me a clear solution to the problem.

#1 Yes the software up date is worth it
#2 If your X is still under factory warranty they should cover it.

Depends on who your warranty provider is and what your contract says.

Agree...trans update is worth it

My 04 4.4i was jerky when downshifting and when ever i pressed the brakes. I updated the Transmission software about 3 weeks ago and the shifting is much smoother without the jerkiness. It's definitely noticeable once it's done. Fortunately for me, it was covered under warranty.

Just got same kind of jerking problems with my 2005 4.4 (still under factory warranty) took it to dealership and they repalced the software. It did not really help. I'll go back tomorrow and they better find what is the case. I used to have 2003 3.0i with really smooth shifting. 4.4i is nice but 6 speed automatic transmission could be better.

got the X back 2 days ago, they reprogrammed the software and "tweaked" it out (already have the updated version). Since i got it back all i can notice is that there is hardly a difference in sport or normal mode. Oh and the jerk problem, its still there and the dealer says to drive it and see if it gets worse and then they would replace the tranny under warranty, so any suggestions if changing a tranny without knowing the problem is a good idea?
