Tire pressure sensor question

Hey Guys,
Will the low tire pressure monitor on a 2006 4.4 with stock 18" wheels still function if upgrading to 20" wheels? The sensor on my old Corvette was actually strap mounted to the rim; I'm not sure if the X5 uses the same method, or if it measures differences in the RPM of the wheels.

Senses wheel speed from the anti-lock braking system. Do a reset of the tyre pressure monitor after the bigger wheels have been fitted and it will be OK.

I upgraded to 20" wheels and the tire pressure sensor works fine.

I have recently driven from the south coast of the UK to Inverness in the highlands of Scotland - 613 miles each way.

Was ga reat drive and still in my first six months of owning my 2005 X5 I am amazed at the comfort and ease of driving for 10 hours in the car.

However, on two occasions the running flat sensor light up and on both occasions the tyres and pressure were OK.

On the return trip - and to date - the sensor did not activated.

Any experiance within this group on how reliable or under/over sensitive the running flat sensor can be?

I went with the 168 replicas. I like them, looks and handles better when dry. Heavier wheels, so worst gas mileage.

I have the same X5 as you, and agree with you on comfort and ease of driving. Have just returned from a 7100km, 3 week journey taking in Sydney (Priscilla Queen of the Dessert), Melbourne (Phantom of the Opera) and then on to one of the great drives of the world: The Great Ocean Road, (along the southern end of Victoria), then pushing on up through Vic' via The Grampians, the Murray river and returning to Surfers Paradise via Temora, a small town in NSW, where, every six weeks or so, they fly their WW11 fighters. Driving the X5 was an absolute pleasure. At one stage, after driving on a dead flat road for 2 hours, the sum of km travelled plus range from the on-board computer was 1330km plus from the 93 litre tank of diesel.
The tyre pressure monitor is quite sensitive and will respond to changes in pressure whether from a leak or from you deliberately altering them. You can reset the system by turning the ignition on and pressing the tyre pressure monitor button until the warning light comes on.

Wow, that is some serious driving and very cool experiance I would imagine. Two hours on a flat road - great economy on the stata.

Since my post no more false positives so am guessing there was a small change for some reason and the sensor was just doing it's job (have reset as you and the manual states).

No loss in tyre pressure so touch wood all OK.
