Sounds like you'll need a Weight Distributing Hitch now.

I run a Prodigy brake controller.

I may need to get your advice on the best way to VIR for me.

BTW- this last trip, my sisters, bil's and I rented a villa at the track.

Ed
HI Ed,

Yes I'm not sure you could come up with a better location for access to great tracks. VIR is one hour away, CMP is 1.5 hours the other direction and soon we'll have High Rock International Raceway(http://racehighrock.com/home.aspx) only about 45 minutes away.

Road Atlanta and Roebling Road in Savannah are also relatively easy tows from here also.

Back to the trailer. Yes on the weight distribution hitch. I've never tried one but I got one as part of the deal on the trailer. I just need to get it properly set up for the X5. Ditto on the brake controller. I am planning on getting the Prodigy or the newer version (P3) they now have available from Tekonsha. I have looked at the DIY writeups and where to mount it does seem like the biggest challenge.

I'm afraid you have already tried all the reasonable routes to VIR. For towing, all those twisty back road are likely a major hassle so the route through Greensboro my be your best bet although adding 40 mile is never fun.

I have not been in the Villa's at the track - that sounds like a nice setup. Although I have seen a crane fall across the guardrail next to the upper esses when they were building the Villas. This cost us a run session at an HPDE while they pulled it back out of the way.

Cheers,

Hi Brian,

Yes maybe we did meet. I met several people there and after a while they all run together. I wish I had known it was you with the X5 and trailer. Yes my car is red with the blue cage and other blue accents. I was not at O'Fest. I went south to Road Atlanta the previous week.

What trailer do you have? Do you know your total weight? Any other tips, WD hitch, etc.

One other question for Brian or anyone else. When test towing with the enclosed trailer, the X5 mirrors are completely useless. Any recommendations for specific mirror extensions that work well with the X5?

i have 2 sets of snap on mirror extensions and both work exceptionally well. got them from an rv wholesaler site online. can't remember the brand or site but they are so simple i can't see how brand can effect it.

they use 2 rubber straps to hug your existing mirror with arms on top and bottom that have cleats to fit on the front of your existing mirror. simple strap on the back and they stay in place... hth

Has High Rock secured the rest of their financing? I heard they were having trouble with investors. Prairie Hills out here in Indiana is having the same problem.

Maybe I'll run into you at VIR for one of the events. I come out for Potomac PCA and Audi Club events.
