FINALLY: found a Subwoofer for rear panel. CHEAP. don't laugh! it works great!

I had a subwoofer installed in my X5 today and replaced my front components with Alpine 17S 6.5 and rears with Alpine 17C 6.5 in the doors. I left the midranges intact and am running all off the factory amp... some told me not to do this or it would not work, but it sounds great.

FINALLY after looking EVERywhere for a sub that would fit in the rear compartment i found this http://bossaudio.com/main/649 Boss Bass600 powered sub built in ! FITS PERFECTLY in the compartment. AND CHEAP! I paid $90 for one on ebay! I was skeptical too,, its a Boss and cheap, but it sounds GREAT.. If you do not need overpowering bass, it gets the job done fine... Total for all equipment on Ebay $330... install $300... $630 is agreat for people who do not want to spend thousands on a system!

Any questions, LMK

Max Power - 600 watts!!!

It's interesting how some companies get their power ratings. I guess 600 watts is the max bc that is the point at which the speaker rips away from the basket!!!

Anyway, glad it worked out for you. I built my own box with an 8" sub to go in the right hand side, but I kept bottoming the speaker out. Then I read a thread where someone just mounted a 10" sub in the panel on the right side and they said it sounded good. Knowing how tight a BMW is, I decided to try it - I installed a 10" Alpine in the panel and then lined the inside of that "hole" with Dynamat and I must say it sounds pretty damn good.

Here is similar solution from Blaupunkt
http://www.blaupunkt.com/us/7606305001_main.asp
An audio store recommended this in a car tuning show, they told that this is a pretty decent sub and they usually install it under passenger seat.

Knowing practically nothing about the workings of the sound system, how does the sub woofer connect to the existing system.
