Peeling door handles under warranty ???

The front door handles of my X5 are peeling off from area where it is black. It seems like some plastic covering is coming in patches and really looks bad. It is from both driver and passenger sides. Is it covered under warranty? my car still has 1000 mile of warranty left. Should i go to stealer and make them change it?

Yes, and do it quickly before your warranty runs out.

My dealer changed mine BEFORE my handles started peeling. He told me the peeling would eventually happen... might as well do it while under warranty.

The dealer replaced my chipping handles under warranty with no questions. I was also about 1000 miles from the end of my warranty when they did the replacement.

I think they are the same yes. Hadn't noticed if they were made out of any different material. The other was some sort of translucent plastic...

I had them replaced on my 2001 X5 under warranty, no questions asked. Have not seen any on the 2005 yet. I hope they improved the quality.

Yes the interior handles are the culprits. When I bought my CPO 02 4.4i, both front interior door handles showed some peeling. Those were replaced under warranty.

The new-car warranty ends this January, so I plan to get all 4 replaced for the future. According to my service rep, the handles will chip and/or peel over time regardless of nails or watches rubbing against them.

Had same problm (7500 miles). Dealer replaced both interior handles at no cost (after a 25-day delivery time). .... I blamed my fiancé too about wearing long nail and jewelry (bad idea!)
