Coolant help!

After finding out the expansion tank had a few pin-hole leaks in it, my dad and I did a DIY install with a new tank. Now, after topping it off with new fluid and checking all the connections, it's 'belching' out coolant from the cap on the tank after building up pressure. I have reason to believe this is from excessive air in the coolant line, or being 'airlocked'. We were advised to bleed the system but can't seem to find out how to do so. It's out of warranty so we're taking all money-saving options available...any help or suggestions?

OK....someone correct me if I'm wrong, but usually you just let it 'belch' until it can't belch any more....at least thats what I was taught on older cars.

Anyone?

Should I let it do this without topping off the fluid everytime? Sorry, I'm a little mechanically...retarded...

Yes you should, but please don't do anything until a gearhead confirms my thoughts. If no one responds, give a quick call to your dealer and ask the service advisor to ask a tech.

Thanks Chris! This seems logical enough and is what the BMW tech recommended. I'll keep you posted. Thanks again for your help!

Man this is taking a while. After hours of trying to coax the air out, there still seems to be some left. It's still belching at coolant like there's no tomorrow... ...starting to get a little frustrated and beginning to think that a trip to Flow BMW is in order. Wonder if it would be ok to drive an hour and half to Winston-Salem, NC?

Are you adding coolant as you go along??? You should be filling so that there is sufficient 'overflow' in the overflow reservoir......
