URGENT REQUEST PLEASE. Someone quick look at tell me if this is all I need...

Hi
This is on ebay and I'd like someone to confirm that this is all I need to add the voice reco to my Navi. I already have the voice reco working on bluetooth, but would like to add this to include voice activated navi controls.

Also, does the price seem fair? And how difficult is it to install?

LINKY:http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...TQ:MOTORS:1123

Million thanks in advance !!!

ED

PS. I think I've solved the mystery. Apparently the 06 doesnt allow voice control for the Nav. What genius at BMW came up with that wonderful idea.. Oh well... Guess thats some extra money for warm winter socks..

What do you mean when you say you already have the VR working with bluetooth? Do you mean commands, or just the fact that the microphone picks up your voice. There is only one voice module. That looks like the one to me. Price is ok I suppose. It is a used unit afterall, and newer bluetooth units have the VR module built in, so the demand for these is quite low now. $150 would be a much better price. Try this one >> LINK

Right now, I can use the voice reco in my car to dial numbers (ie, I can say dial number, and speak them one at a time, and it will dial the numbers...eventually I'll get around to creating a phonebook), and respond to commands associated with my bluetooth phone. However, since I dont have (I THINK) the SES module that controls the Navi, I cannot for example say "Find Gas Station " and have it understand what I mean. Or "Map On", nothing associated with Navi works.

WOW I sure like that $50 price a whole lot better too ! THX !!!!!!

(I hope this makes sense)..

Sorry for being such a noob..

The SES module doesn't just control Navi, it controls ALL voice commands in general. If you can dial your phone with it, you have it. Look behind the left rear panel and look for it >> LINK.

Try this, make sure accept screen is clear on your navi screen > have any other screen showing than the map screen > initiate the voice command function > say "MAP". Your nav map should appear. Try it.

Greg:
I think I have discovered the elusive mystery. Apparently the 2006 MY does not permit Navi voice controls, ONLY bluetooth phone controls.
Not sure why, but a little search has led me to that conclusion.

Unless someone can prove me wrong...

While we're at it..

This looks like a pretty good deal,no..?

Whatya think? Gives me a lot of what I'm looking for ..

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...TQ:MOTORS:1123

I'm just gun shy spending $800 on ebay..

Is this a difficult install? ie, do I need to take the entire dash apart?

Thanks again

If I were you, I would explore other multimedia options for your X5 such as products from eas LINK. They are a board sponsor here, and Tom G, a member here, is extremely knowledgeable and informative.

I have had the TV tuner in my X5 in the past. It IS NOT an easy install, and the TV reception, if that is important to you, is marginal at best. The tuner you show, mounts under the spare tire, and the antenna mounts underneath the rear spoiler. Without full detailed instructions, you would have a tough time installing it properly.

Just my 2¢. Talk to Tom G, I think you will be surprised at what capabilities you can get for your money. Simply post your questions in our Mobile Electronics Forum. Good luck!

I too found out that VR functions for the 04-06 X5's are only available for the Bluetooth Phone features. It's not a standard feature but rather available. I believe this depends on which bluetooth module you have and I'm pretty sure that Bluetooth with Assist and built in VR for Bluetooth is all you can get for the 04-06's. I'm still waiting for someone to prove me wrong. Hey if you have BMW Assist and VR for your Navigation features, then chime in! If not, then we aren't talking about the same thing. Funny how BMW didn't make some of the features available on the older preface lifted X5's available to the newer 04-06's.
