Question New to X5 and BMW questions

Hey guys, just wanted to say whats up since i will be a new addition to your community and hopefully with time i will be able to contribute.

I have a few questions about the car, i have the 2002 4.4i with all options . Now a few problems i have had in the few weeks of ownership: the driver side headlight is wayyyy to bright compared to passenger yet dealer claims its fine, is that normal? also when the headlights turn on they look blue but then fade to yellowish is that normal? they are XENON

now for the electrical system: the navigation screen stays lit once in a while or shows BMW logo even with the car off and keys out why/how to fix
while changing the volume the system ended up changing the radio station and then ended up changing the computer mode display .

last but not least what the hell is aux ventilation or what is the point of it.

I hope someone can answer these questions

thanks to all in advance

The best I understand the aux ventilation is that it a way for you to preheat or precool your car by setting a time for it to go off after which it will run for 20 or 30 minutes without needing the keys in the car. This way, when you get in it should be less cool/hot. I have not tried it yet, but it seems like a cool idea if you get into your car at the same time each day and you know it will be extremely hot or cold. Someone else may be able to do this more justice.

Not familiar with any of the problems you are facing. I am sure that the folks in this forum will have some insight. It is amazing!!

First of all, welcome to our "World"...you have come to the right place for X5 info and humor. Ok, to your questions...the drivers side headlight is generally a lil higher than the passenger. I believe this is a safety feature so that you don't blind on coming traffic. Next, Aux.vent is just what was described above. It allows you to set the cooling fans (Not A/C) to come on at a specific time to cool down your interior or you can use it for heat as well. Your electrical issues sound like a minor system glitch. Have a dealer take a look at that. I'm sure you aren't the first to experience this. Trust me, someone here will chime in with the answer. I think BMW of North America should consult this board prior to making changes to the new X.................Phil

Did that happen while using the controls on the steering wheel? Mine will rarely do that, it is so infrequent, it doesn't bother me. When you say computer mode display, do you mean the language or miles/km?

First, :welcome: to X5world

Regarding the nav system, the screen will automatically come on whenever activity on the i-bus is detected. i-bus activity can be triggered by opening a door or unlocking the vehicle. It's completely normal unless it fails to turn back off after a short period of time.

yop! you have an outdated version of the NAV software, you must be on versoin 21 or so, E Z fix is to update your soft to the newest version, which i believe is now at 25. PM our super guy here Jeff (UCREWX5) and ask for link to the soft versions for update, simple download and burn onto cd-r and pop in your gps dvd rom for quick update. good luck w/ that one and the rest.

Hey guys, so far so good, i hope those are only glitches but what happened was also the system ended up blowing out 4 of my speakers by making each one crackle so i had the dealer replace those but they couldnt reproduce the issue. i will def take it back to dealer since its still on warranty from factory for another year but for a certified vehicle of this class there should be NO issues lol. in any case about the headlight the problem is it ends up blinding traffic i had few people yell at me already not cool since the predetermination of people about bmw drivers already sucks.

We don't worry about what the people think. Once you are behind the wheel, it's about the drive baby..Phil
