No way man!! No matter how old or what condition its in, you should bring it back..i dont need to tell you how much X's are over here..You can make some SERIOUS money over here if you sell it here...No matter what..Especially with the exchange rate...

I sold a '96 Dodge Ram (US Spec) here that was only worth like 5 grand(Dollars!)..I sold it in 2 days on AutoTrader for 9000 quid at a 1.88 exchange rate! The only thing is the pertol cost..You will have to find a good market..No problem!

Smile I have had a rethink !!!!!

Hi there,
since I started to look for similar X5's at home I did find a few that were similar money BUT the spec was so much more basic.
My 3.0 Nov 01 registered ' 02 spec ' has rear aircon, privacy rear glass, side blinds, auto lights, powered memory seats,19" sports rims with Perrilli scorpion tyres, grey leather seats with the nice light poplar trim, sunroof so as you can see when I went searching for a uk car with similar spec even going up to 35K pounds I couldnt find 1 car that matched. My 40,000 miles X5 is still worth about $33,000 US , so I have decided to go back to plan A which was to bring the car home when we return.
It appears the only thing I now need to do is replace the headlamps with Uk ones, after speaking to a BMW dealer at home I was pleasantly surprised to find out replacing my Xenon lamps will be about 500 pounds for the pair, not too bad I supose.
Thanks for the feedback.

Im sure you can get them on ebay for a lot cheaper too. When you bring your car back, if you decide to sell it, your customers will come from the continent. Most of mine are displaced Brits in France and Spain. I could have sold my E46 for twice the loot. E46's here STILL come with cloth seats! X's arent that far behind. The only thing is, the 4.4's now COME with Type 132 wheels standard. But the "standard" option your come with will be more than worth it.

Now I think if you keep it over a year, the buyer wont have to pay import tax. More later...

No, there is no import or vat to pay because I have owned the car for more than 6 months and I have been living out of the uk for more than 12 months.I spoke to a very helpfull chap at svauk a company in Southhampton that specialise in preparing and aproving imported cars for sva and registration and they expained what will need to be done and I am fully confidant that there will be no hastle to bring my car home. That is a weight of my mind . I was beginning too wonder if it was worth the hassle.
But now I know the full story I am thinking should I buy a newer X out here before I come home and benefit from a new or newer model. ????????????????????????????
Then the savings are HUGH, I can get a semi loaded 3.0 brand new for $53,000 which is approx 30,000 pounds a saving of about 13,000 pounds over a new UK car, of similar spec. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Welcome to my world. I may go to jail for this, but I used to buy Amercan spec cars here tax free(from visiting US forces) and sell them on the local economy and the continent for double the value. Unfortunately, once again, the biggest issue will be petrol costs. But there so many on the market now, for £30,000 its not even funny. And they sell like hotcakes. Since I leave in a year, I cant sell mine, but Im thinking about picking up an E90 and selling just before I leave..You can make bank over here!
