Red face 4.6L shimmy/shake in steering...need help!

My 2003 4.6L X5 with 45k miles has (and has always had!) a strange shake/shimmy through the steering wheel when I am turning hard over in a parking lot type situation or other slow speed maneuvers. At least this is the only time that I notice it. I would like to know if I have a suspension/steering problem/issue or if the vibes are just due to the enormous tires/wheels and/or the all-wheel-drive differential work when turning slowly.

Thanks!

Tires! My 330i did this and I thought it was a bent wheel. Would do it when I applied the brakes really hard or at highway speed. Replaced front tires and it is gone, drives like new. For the record rear tires were replaced 5k miles ago.

Probably the rack. Check sway bars also.

I don't know if it's related but I had shimmy through the steering wheel only when applying brakes at like under 40. It turned out to be warped rotors.
