Dinan Throttle Body

Is my stealer trying to pull a fast one on me? I saw that the Dinan throttle body came out for my '05 X5 and called the BMW of SF. Speaking with Dinan specialist I was told that I cannot upgrade just the throttle body, I also have to upgrade the software for an extra ~$695. Is this the case or is he bluffing?

dinan

No, you dont have to get the new ecu but it will help re-caliberate the new amount of airflow going into the engine. If you really want a ecu upgrade that you will actually see differnces call up powerchip. They make the most power for the money

I called Dinan to ask about this a few weeks ago... s/w is not required for the throttle body. In fact, they haven't even released the engine s/w for the N62 engine models ('04 & '05) yet. Same deal with the exhaust.

it is very simple. You can even take yours off and polish it yourself in about an hour. OR you can take it to a local mechanic and have him take off the TB and polish it. That should cost about 1/4 of what Dinan costs. Their prices are

Polishing your stock throttlebody will not do crap. The reason why the dinan throttle body give 8hp is because it is a larger diameter. It has nothing to do with polishing. And before you ask, no you can not have it bored out to make the opening bigger. There is nothing to bore out. The walls on the throttle body are like a 1/8 of an inch. The dinan throttle body is an entirely new unit that is larger. Not a ported and poliched stock unit.

color me skeptical. How many mm is the OEM and how many is the Dinan? I also firmly believe that it is very much possbile to port the OEM TB.

I just looked at their website. It must be ported b/c they want your TB for a core.
