What year is the X? 16mpg with careful driving seems pretty low..I usually get around 19-21. How many miles on it? Oil change maybe?!

Are you referring to you headlights coming on everytime you start the car? This is an option with the keyfob memory. Ask you BMW dealer to change the settings so lights dont automatically come on when you start. They can do this. Usuall factory default is off.. but your setup my be set to active.

Just a thought. Is your car calibrated for UK Gals if you imported it. US Gal is smaller than a UK Gal.

I have a 2005 3.0D Sport with auto headlights and auto wipers amongst the list of toys. Sensor for both is inside the windscreen on the back of the mirror mounting and sits against the inside of the glass.

I think as the car ages a bit after new, the mpg gets better.

For example, I took a 550 Mile trip to toronto canada recently. My average speed on the computer was 67 MPH. The computer showed my average MPG (Consump1) at 21.9 MPG. I never reset my Consump2 (which was local/hwy driving and it was 20.8 MPG. I made 4 rest area stops also and filled up twice, not knowing how the X was going to do.

On my way back home, I filled up in buffalo (right after the boarder for $40) and came home on the same tank of gas with 1/4 left. Total miles from Buffalo to NY (453) with the computer showing 119 left to go. I actually got 504 before that gas light came on. Coming back the drive is down hill a lot and the average speed was 57 MPH since I was driving like 6 hrs at night. I made 4 rest area stops but no gas fill up.

The X exceed my expectations with gas mileage and gets me 100 miles more before 1/4 tank than my 2003 mini van that I traded in for the X. I got 240 miles on a 20 gallon tank on my van vs 350 on the X with a 25 gallon tank. I love my X
