NOVA- What were the signs that made you know you needed one? I am wondering because I think I need one...

Some times my lights dim after the car is first started up and I turn on the a/c or heat.

Mine was replaced at 30,000 miles. Cranking was slower than usual during starts and after a couple of hours, the X did not want to start after I parked it. I charged the battery, it started again and when I got home, the battery is drained again. Brought it to the dealer the next day after jump starting it using the battery in my wife's E70.

i already told you guys about the story. it died on freeway I-495 when my wife was driving home from work. dangerous stuff. well, i have the x sitting at home for too long now, i need to replace it. because we dont need to drive it at the moment thats why i didn't replace it. dealer wants my arms and legs. but now the winter will start very soon, i need to replace it. currently i am driving my 530i and my wife is using my 07 civic as her daily driver, even though she didn't like the civic at all. i start to lose the bond with the x since i brought home the 530i, now i wouldn't care less if it doesn't run. apperently it is sitting at home for more than 4 weeks. as i said winter is around the corner, we need it in snow. O-Rileys a store?

does the I6 use the same alternator as the V8? I can't believe we paid $700 for our alternator.

they dont use the same alternator, I6 uses 120amp one and V8 use 150amp i believe. the part is around $200 and labor is about $170. the only thing i dont want to pay is the CORE $111. basically, if you buy the alternator it is $200 + $111 = $311 you will get the CORE fee back if you return the bad alternator. They are all remanufactured for that reason.
