Baby Car Seat...

I'm gonna install our rear facing baby seat in our X5 this weekend.
I did a mock test earlier and have a couple questions (noob at this)

1) Is there a way to lock the seat belt that holds the base in? When i tried earlier, it was loose. Maybe i'm strapping it wrong? All i did was loop the lap belt around the base.

2) Where's the best position for the seat? behind driver, behind passenger or center?

3) Does my 2003 X5 have rear airbags? i didnt see it stamped on the rear door panels (like the fronts) and if i do, how would i know if its disabled?

Thanks
Franklin

Hey
On my X5 there was a label on the middle seat belt that said (if your puting a baby seat here pull the belt all the way out then once its out jerk really quick then it will lock once its tightend in.) When I did mine (front facing) I pushed the seat balt back in while I pressed my knee onto the child seat to make it tighter. Then it should be pretty tight. if no luck check you owners manual. If you dont have one then there is a online manual here at the home page. I positioned mine in the center.

After you loop the belt around the base, give it a quick pull and let it release - it should then lock into place when it's tight. Also your baby seat will come with a small metal clip which is handy to keep the belt in place.

I found the best place to be behind the passenger seat, especially since my seat is all the way back! Now that my daughter is a little older and forward facing, I put the seat in the center.

If you have rear airbags, it will say so on the rear door panels. You would have them only if you specifically ordered your X5 with this option. Most of them do not have it.

behind the passenger seat if you wana be able to fix the kid up while you're backing up =D. Honestly its all w/e works for you. As for rear passenger airbags, on my 2001 x5 its stamped right on the door that there are side airbags, maybe you didn't have them installed on your x if there is no stamp...? you could always call up your local BMW dealer or PM the morristown BMW vendor on this forum (where i got my x).
