2001 e53 battery drain problem
Ive got a 6 amp drain on the battery when in sleep mode. Ive traced it to (I think) under the dash. I thought it was the hedgehog (heater sat) but I think Ive disconnected it and it still drains. the drain happens even when ALL fuses are out; and Ive disconnected the alternator driving me mad! Any help appreciated |

Here's a link to an online wiring diagram. You must use Internet Explorer 5.0 or later to access it (not Firefox).
I hope it helps http://www.xoutpost.com/e53wd.php |

There's a tsb for the 01's regarding this issue. The radio is most likely causing the drain.

HELP>>>>I have an 03 X-5, 3.0 that drains a full charged battery in under 6 hours even in sleep mode...it's, unfortunately, intermittant. Had it at the shop for two days....nothing....next day AM 8:30 AM good....1:30 PM...dead. Has a new alternator and new battery....mechanic can't find the drain....Any ideas? Only thing I've done was change the brake bulb in the back and once used the ipod adapter in the cigarette lighter....At night once I heard clicking noises in the side view mirrors, moved them w/the switch and they stopped (yup, battery still dead in the morning). The fan likes to run for a while (I guess it's the auxillary fan) but no other activity that is noticeable.
Getting tired of jumping the X-5, Sweetrl |

Sweetrl its your heater sat trade name hedgehog, £58 + vat under the centre console, looks like an aluminium porcupine; causes the fans to run in the night etc etc when shorting
