Michelin Diamaris stiff?

My new (to me) 2004 4.4 Sport has the 19" wheels with brand new Michelin Diamaris tires. My BMW Factory Tech friend tells me the Diamaris have a VERY stiff sidewall, which it appears I am feeling in the ride.

Has anyone had the Diamaris' on their X5 and then switched to another tire? How did the ride of the Diamaris compare to other tires you have used?

Thanks!

Diamaris by far has the best handling over other ones. If you can live with harsh ride (also to me its not that harsh, its SPORTY) stick with diamaris!

Performance is painful....lose the stiffness, lose the performance.

If you want a cushy ride, the Sport 19" wheels are wrong for you. Trade them out for a set of 18".

Personally I didn't like the Diamaris' tread life, so I picked a tire with longer rating when I replaced them the 2nd time on my '00.

... especially since I've recently switched from 18" to 20". It's not that much harsher. Besides the sporty more aggressive and handling performance of the Diamaris tires makes up for it, IMHO.

What did you replace the Diamaris with?
Thanks Colin.

I went with Kumho Ecsta STX. Tread rating is like 420 I think, but they feel just as grippy as the Diamaris. Noise level is similar, maybe slightly less. Cost is less. Overall these get a pretty good average customer rating at tirerack.com, but I'm thinking next time I may go with Michelin Tour HP which also have good tread rating but are quieter I hear.
