Now, as you can see, I was able to swing the wish bone around the sway bar link and securely zip tie it to the half axle temporarily until the entire assembly is removed. ^ Click for 2112x2816 I was able to remove the big clamp off the inner boot after some wrestling. Not sure if I can reuse this thing or if a zip-tie is in order here. So now what? I guess I am ready for step #9 (removing the whole deal). I still don't understand how the hell I do this. **Do I need to remove the two 22 MM bolts (in red cicles in attachment pic) from what I think is the strut tower brace first? Anything else I am missing?!?! Please help!

I think I got it, those bolts need to come out and then i need to pry the axle out with a prybar like so:
![]() I've been advised that some differential fluid may spill out (so I should be ready to catch it) and that I would need to replace whatever is lost. For re-insertion grease the grooved tip with axle grease insert in to the spindle shank and give a good shove. Man that's dirty sounding ![]() So I guess katit substituted the pry bar for the air hammer. To each his own. AM I MISSING ANYTHING!?!?!?!

you've already drained the front diff so I don't think you'll get any spilling out when you unplug the half shaft :-) you're sure the FILL plug can come out? ;-)
you can just use the pry bar. the bolts you circle in red will probably need to come out. I don't think the strut can pivot enough to pull the half shaft out of the diff |

OK... got cracked off those 22 mm bolts and replaced with zipties. Got a 30" gooseneck prybar from Sears today, one question left:
Is this the proper spot to pry the axle out of the diff now? Anything else I need to do here? My understanding is it should come out somewhat easily unless there is any rust. This was my parents car in Tahoe, but was also garaged. Haven't noticed much, if any surface rust on any of the bolts so far. Do I need to do anything with draining the diff fluid first? I don't see why it would matter.

Where are the fill/drain plug bolts? I don't even see them. Is there one set per side?

Man. You overcomplicating. Just loosen that inner joint boot and slide inside part of joint from there. Don't mess with differential and part that goes there.
