HID Issue - flickering then cutting out

I have an aftermarket HID kit which i just installed onto my '04 X5 3.0. It was pretty much plug and play so the installation wasn't so bad. Right now I just have one of them installed. My issue is that when i turn on the engine the lights come on just fine. However after about 10 seconds, the new HID light flickers and then cuts out. Happens everytime I turn on the engine. However, if I just turn the key to the accessory slot (not turn on the engine), and then turn on the headlights, the HID works just fine, without flickering or cutting out. I've heard of the wattage error message that people get when installing HID kits, but i have the generic X5 dash cluster, without the text display so i can't see this message, even though I would think that I would get this error. So my question is this, is this error causing the lights to turn off? Also, I do have resistors that I've heard can fix the error message. I have yet to install those. Where exactly do I place the resistor (what wires does it connect to)? Thanks for anyone who can help me out.
