You could probably move the BMW DSP sub over, but you would also need to add a small amp to power it. The standard amp does not have any sub outputs, so you would end up wiring the DSP sub exactly like you had the BSW sub & amp wired.

Sounds like I can buy a single channel amp then and I'm good to go. Since I have the install/removal for the BSW clear in my mind this doesn't sound insurmountable. Thanks!

Hmmm, ok, so I found this picture of the connector of the DSP sub - how would I get this connected to the amp? If I knew the wiring of it I guess I could just cut the connector off because I won't be re-installing the DSP sub...

just get the JL Audio StealthBox or the BSW Subwoofer system for the X5. If you're concerned about maximizing space, then those would be your better option. You will get tons better sound out of either option over the DSP sub and it will be less of a headache installing it.

The OEM subs are dual voice coil, so there are actually 8 wires going from that 12 pin connector up to the drivers (1 positive, 1 negative wire for each side of the coil = 4 wires per sub, 8 wires total for two subs) You can wire the coils differently to match the impedance of your amp and could actually wire them up with two wires going to the amp. However, do not put a lot of power on the OEM subs, and I strongly suggest using a subsonic filter on the amp. If you hit them hard with >35 hz with more than 20 or 30 watts they will jump out of the box and exit the car. ![]() Last edited by ncx; 11-06-2007 at 06:15 PM. |
