Folding mirrors...

Hi All,

Anyone know or carried out a retro-fitting of folding mirrors?

Thanks

Yep, piece of cake. Just get two folding mirrors, a replacement window/mirro switch (with square extra button) and an hour of spare time.

Take your old mirrors off. Have to remove the door card for this but no biggie. Three screws IIRC.

New mirrors just bolt on and connect to your new switch.

I didn't remove any fuses or battery. Just connected it all up and worked. No coding.

Really easy mod. Shame they dont fold on the key though...

They look exactly the same as all X5 mirrors. Just fold (about 45 degrees into the glass). I used my old casing on the new mirrors (just to labour the point).

Kev.

Here's an article on the retrofit..

I'm not sure if the article had pictures before or not, but they aren't working now.

They don't fold much as they fold in instead of upwards (as on the M5 etc.) Just about 45 degrees I'd say, here's mine folded ...

I'll take a rear shot later to see if it's any clearer.

Cheers.

Kev.

Sorry to disappoint mate - as far as I know, these are the only OEM type available for the E53. But correct me if I'm wrong someone...

They do the job though. You can fold/unfold them to get through width barriers at speeds less than 5mph, and they match the width of the running boards.

I did read somewhere about a company doing M5 style mirrors for the E53.

Actually, I've got an E39 M5 mirror in my garage, I'll see how different the base-plate footprint is. Pretty sure the E53 ones are much bigger....

One more question please. I've located a set of 2002/3 folding mirrors are they the same as post facelift? I have a 2006 X5

Also is the base the same i.e do I just change the outer casing?

Thanks
