Instrument Cluster

Hi

I imported a 2002 X5 3.0i from US to Turkey. As you would know I have the MPH instrument cluster with 64.000 miles on it. Last week I bought a used KMH cluster from ebay with 40.000 km on it and got it installed at a unauthorized BMW service.

Eventhough the service is unauthorized they have all the up to date BMW computers with current softwares. The guy installed the KMH cluster and everything was working great exceps the ABS and DSC lights.

The OBC gave ABS and DSC alarms and the guy freaked out whenever he saw those lights. Manupilation dot was also on. The guy told me to change it to the original MPH cluster because he did not want to ruin the car's computer. I took a short drive with my car and cluster was counting up the trip in KMH's and the manupilation dot was on.

We installed the original MPH cluster and ABS and DSC light was on. He reset all the lights and everything went back to normal with the original MPH cluster.

He did not reset the ABS and DSC lights when the KMH cluster was installed. He said it is a risky business to do and did not want to deal with it.

So guys, is it really a doable mod or not. I really want to have KMH cluster. Please help me....

It's doable, but I would use an authorized BMW dealer to recode the cluster.

I just talked with the authorized dealer and they said they cannot do it and it is not doable. Maybe they dont want to deal with it. What should I do know?

Ok

I talked with another authorized dealer and they said they can code a KMH cluster. But they can't code a used cluster (because a cluster can only be coded once) so I have to get a new one which have to be ordered with my VIN number. It costs about $800 plus labor.

Do you think this is true or is this is only a story from the stealer.
