Angry Warranty Direct / BMW of Manhattan (Rant)

So I reneged on my word to never take the X to BMW of Manhattan ever again after several dissapointing experiences. However, because of an upcoming roadtrip, I needed a fast cv boot replacement. I take her to the Manahattan stealer and they tell me that they don't accept 3rd party warranty because they're difficult to deal with and they don't agree with dealers labor fees, instead, I'll have to pay for the $750 repair out of pocket and have Warranty Direct reimburse me. The Service Advisor then claims that he'll call WD to "check and confirm that I'm covered".

Question:
-Why would they (stealer) bother calling WD if they won't accept them?

So I call WD to confirm that they'll cover the repair (as they always have in the past) by the stealer. As expected they said they would honor and all stealer has to do is call and receive a credit card # for payment. I now contact the SA to inform what WD just confirmed but he says "we don't accept credit cards from 3rd party warranty companies".

So the stealer will accept my credit card for repairs but not Warranty Direct's credit card? I'm not being frugal in not wanting to pay out of pocket, but not paying out of pocket is the exact reason I took out a warranty!

I did a bunch of repairs about 6 months ago by Westchester BMW costing approx 4K USD and they had no issues with WD. I decided to take the X to a reputable independant Euro repair facility at a cost of $340 with same day turn-around.

Anybody experience this before in Manahattan or elsewhere?

when will people learn to just stay away from Manhattan BMW?

They're even worse than Rallye on LI.

Why waste your time with dealers on a non factory warranty car...

There are tons of indy mechanics that do good work with BMW's in the tri state area.... I took my CV boot job (inner and outer both sides, cost me $560 total) to Giovanni's (718) 937-2931 it is over the 59th street bridge in LIC... it looks like a hole in the wall but Gianni knows cars (although he does not specialize in BMW).... I've taken 3-BMW's to him since 1996... He is honest and fair...

Chilliwilli: Though I have sold my x5 I still check the forum. I think Westchester BMW and BMW of Manhattan are both factory owned dealerships (I have dealt with Westchester BMW where I bought and service warranty issues on my former X5, and bought a bike at BMW of Manhattan years back).

If one honors the warranty I do not understand why the other won't. I would have Manhattan call Westchester and honor your warranty just as they did (West).

Good luck.

After I mentioned to him that Westchester had no problems with my warranty in the past, the SA mentioned that "each dealer sets their own rules". Thanks for the feedback, Paulpt.

As a consumer....if you don't like the service, just walk.....plenty of mechanics around to do a cv boot swap. After one disappointing experiance, why even go back at all..

Sorry you are going through that Chilliwilli. I assume (again), both dealerships being factory owned should honor the same as at the end BMW directly pays the bills. I have the feeling someone in Manhattan will have to deal with a little extra paperwork to process your warranty and they are giving you a bunch of BS as response.

Best of luck again.

$750 to repair a CV Boot? That's absolutely ridiculous! How much was the part and labor?
