I had the 'Transmission failsafe' sign up the other day. THe whole car shut down, engine stopped etc. It started again a few minutes later but the car was taken in to the dealer by BMW Emergency Service.
I could see large problems ahead but it turned out to be the crankshaft sensor. Things were not as bad as I thought.
