10 bucks...whew.
Mobil 1 0-40 is about $4 USD a qt at many WalMarts
here in the states. Not sure if it's "european", but I
like the 0-40 in cooler temps.

Phyberoptic. I got a message back from the Castrol regional manager. he indicated that 0W30 is onlyavailable in litres. Additionally he indicated that the best choices for prices were Cdn Tire, Part source and napa. No Wholesale prices .I found it at Wall mart for $8.54/litre plus GST. I did not find it at Cdn Tire.

Same thing happened this week

I had the fortunate luck of having the same thing happen this week to me. The dealership wants $1600 to fix it. However, I have a friend that's a mechanic. I know you have to change the valve gasket, but do I really need to replace the PCV lines and clean out the intake manifold. Does anyone know?

If you insulate the PVC valve, lines and oil seperator. This is all that the dealer will do. See if they have the latest insulated lines
The last upgrade on the N62 engine was in April '07.
Parts installed on my N62 ( 4.4l) last month were as follows: These are the latest parts available.
1 11-12-7-563-474 cylinder head cover
1 11-61-7-563-476 vent pipe
1 11-61-7-547-186 vent pipe cyl 5-8
11-12-7-509-753 cap nut
6 31-10-1-096-987 Bolt M10 x55
6 33-30-6-760-587 Hex nut M10-10 ZNS3

Hope this helps.

Note: the first 1 is not part of the part number but rather the quantity. The 6 is also the quantity on the last 2 items.

The PCV hoses are most likely clogged with the water logged oil (the gooey stuff). Mine were. I know there are some others here who have said that it is a good idea to replace the hoses and clean the PCV/Oil Separater. That is what I did. The PCV/Oil Separater is a real pain to get off, but you can do it. There are two bolts holding it on. The lower hose that attaches to the bottom of the PCV is a little difficult to attach, but I took my time and got it all back together.

You'll have to rinse out the PCV pretty good. I used some Dawn dish soap and hot water. I shook the thing up quite a bit to get all the gunk out of it.

I'm not sure if you have to clean out the intake manifold. I looked inside mine during my valley pan cover repair and it was clean. The PCV and its attached tubes are the primary spot for clogging up during cold weather.
